Partnerships for sustainable development |

Why do individual businesses and global companies with seemingly enormous resources and influence opt to partner with the United Nations and with non-governmental organisations? One would think that big business can work autonomously in a liberal global market and that it does not need anyone's help. However, business and marketing logic lead more and more large and small companies to enter into partnerships with international organisations and with civil society organisations. They do this voluntarily or even under pressure to improve their long-term business planning, to fine-tune their risk assessment capabilities, and to better manage their brands and their markets. The result is a cross-sector partnership network through which corporate social responsibility projects help relieve poverty, support employment and improve health in numerous countries around the world. Business is discovering a business logic in sustainable development and in the goals of the United Nations.
